Les Givrés

On Thursdays, Les Givrés – Montreal’s most creative frozen dessert bar – hosts a dessert-tasting night. Every week, the team of business-partner buddies presents a different offering of three mini-sized desserts, accompanied by coffee, tea, or hot chocolate and a little scoop of gelato to end.

Our tasting began with a shot glass filled with green apple, lime juice, crumble, maple syrup-flavoured Greek yogurt, cheddar chips and lime caviar. It was fresh and delicious.

Next, we had a date cake soaked in maple syrup, blue cheese cream, Roche Noire, and maple-flavoured bacon. Not my thing, but it was definitely new and creative! Our third dessert consisted of a cheesecake with sour cream icing, passion fruit jelly and homemade Graham cracker. This last one was my favorite, it had a perfect sweet-sour-bitter balance.

And the gelato? The night’s surprise flavour was a supertasty and refreshing apple cider that definitely deserves to be included in the regular menu.

All in all? Make reservations. Sucrez vos becs. The flavours are fun, the desserts are aesthetically delighting and the atmosphere is homey. These dessert nights are an awesome way to make ice-cream treats work in the middle of a Canadian (albeit mild) winter. Well done, les boys.
